How do I care for my wood floors?

Everyone tries to make wood floor care difficult. Do you want to know the secret? Sweep. Dirt and debris that is left on the floor actually acts like sandpaper when your feet shuffle over the surface of a dirty floor. The less dirt that is on your floor the better.

If you have a spill, use a damp cloth - you shouldn’t ever get out a mop and a bucket. Use a wood floor cleaner like Basic Squeaky or Bona when sweeping isn’t enough.

What do I need to keep an eye out for?

Dulling or Graying. If after you’ve cleaned your floor you notice it is substantially more dull in a spot (usually a high traffic area) than it used to be. That means your finish is wearing down and you most likely need a fresh coat. It’s a common misconception that you need a whole sand & finish to put on a fresh coat or to maintain your wood floors. If “gray spots” have started to develop, you’ve gone too far. The gray spot is actually dirt becoming embedded in the surface of your wood floor.

What can I do to protect my wood floors?

You can get a professional clean followed by a coat of finish. There is no sanding involved and we can finish in just hours. 24 hours later your floor will look amazing and you’ll be begging us to come back.

Will we Deliver?

Certainly. We typically charge by the pallet. Extra charges for leaving Salt Lake Valley may apply.

We have a small apartment/house and a lot furniture....

During new installation, such as prefinished hardwood, LVT, or laminate furniture can be moved around to accommodate the installation as long as there is enough space.

During a sanding & refinish, all the furniture will need to be moved where the work will be performed. Due to nature of work, we usually cannot sand & finished in sections.

Vama usually doesn't like to move furniture due to liability and damage. We suggest quite often to hire a storage unit, like PODS, and store your furniture safely and securely.

What about appliances and plumbing fixtures?

We would prefer to not be liable for these items. Leaks can occur due to age and general condition of these items. It is too difficult to take upon the company the liability of an existing appliance or plumbing fixture. Sometimes they are poorly installed and Vama will not inherit the issues that may arise.

Help! I have a film or residue on my floor?

Image

This happens a lot. This is a picture of a client who used Orange Glo for years. We already were in the process of cleaning it up. On the right can, you can see we have stripped the residue and started the mitigation. In all the years we have dealt with this issue, we have not encountered another flooring company that can save a floor like this without sanding & refinishing.

Don't despair. we can clean this up for you without sanding and can save you thousands.

My sub-floor is uneven and in several areas have squeaks.

Subfloor prep is needed quite often. This is normal. As a house or building ages, it changes shape. This results in a subfloor that can move slightly or even be unlevel. In most cases, this is easily mitigated. We can grind, sand, and self level a subfloor in most cases.

Squeaks, cracks and other noises cannot be warrantied due to the nature of how buildings change from season to season and over time. Usually when we mitigate squeaks they can come back as soon as the weather changes. For this reason, we generally wont promise results. We will still try. But promises are not given to eliminate a squeak.

I have complicated work schedule. Do I or a family member have to be there during the installation?

The short answer is no. But a lot of questions can arise during an installation and if the main purchaser of the floor or service isn't around, it get's quite difficult for us to do our job.
Some decisions are purely aesthetic preference, and we want to make sure we get it right for you.
In reality, we work alone quite often. Most of our clients aren't present during installation or while Vama is performing work. We will work around your schedule as best we can to accommodate your install or job.
